6th Annual New Plays/New Voices Festival
Our 6th Annual New Plays/New Voices Festival, a celebration of plays written by MCPS students, is scheduled for Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 1pm. It will be held at the music stage of the Rio in Gaithersburg, by the lake, near Guapo’s. Admission is free. Here are the three student-written plays we'll be presenting:
UNDER THE RUG, written by Mr. Lapadula's 5th grade class, Chevy Chase Elementary School
A genetically modified rat is released into society with hilariously catastrophic results!
DETECTIVE CAPTAIN TORY, written by Mr. Hirsch's 5th grade class, Bells Mill Elementary School
A detective story about a murder at sea!
THE SWEEP OF VENGEANCE, written by Ms. Morris' 5th grad class, Bethesda Elementary School
A witch seeks revenge for an incident that happened 55 years ago. Unfortunately, she's bad at casting spells.

Playwright in the Schools
Artistic Director John Morogiello has been teaching playwriting to elementary, middle, and high school students throughout Maryland for over two decades. Over the course of a 6 to 8 day residency, each class collaboratively writes and performs a play of their own. It’s a fun way to explore the writing and acting process while learning about other curricular topics.
